The charcoal is manufactured here the traditional way using
brick kilns and fire-wood. No electrical oven is used. The original 70 to 80
tons of logs will produce 13 to 14 tons of charcoal. The kiln is full of logs
about 70 to 80 tons of logs. The opening is partly sealed of until only a
smaller opening about 3-foot high is left. The smaller logs are used as
fire-wood and are burnt only at the entrance (probably extending up to four
feet inside the kiln.
The kiln has only a few small piped openings at the top to
vent out smoke. It is will minimise air (basically oxygen) from entering the
inside. Without oxygen, the logs heats up without burning until they are super
dry and turn to charcoal.
The sealed off with clay bricks and clay mortar. The clay
used to construct the kiln allows it to cool down at a slower rate. It takes
ten days for the kiln to cool down to room temperature, in the meantime the
internal heat is in the final process of turning the logs into good quality
charcoal.

Mangrove forests are the spawning ground for
various species of fish and shellfish. Mangroves act as sponges to absorb the
impact of tidal waves and they also protect the river from erosion. The wood
from mangrove trees is used for construction works, firewood, and charcoal.
Kong Kong river have several types of mangrove such as
“Bakau Tumu” and “Bakau Minyak”. But entirely in Kong Kong River is “Bakau
Tumu”. Many species of fish, shrimp and
crabs are can be found in mangrove areas. It depends on the tides water in the
river. During a boat ride on the kong kong river visitors will be able to see
the “Pulau Juling”. It is fulfilled with “Bakau Tumu also known as “Bakau
Jankang”. Boat ride will bring visitor to see the Sand Island. In the Sand
Island, visitors can request if want to make the activities such as camping,
fishing, etc. The equipment will provided by owner of the boat. the visitors need to
inform the owner before came to make the activities.
